LO3 M2: Legal and ethical issues for repurposing content.
In this report I am looking at the legal and ethical issues surrounding the area of repurposing content for an online media profile. When looking at repurposing content for an online media profile, you need to see what actual documents are needed for your CV, the documents needed may depend of the media sector you are applying for. For example, if you were creating a CV/portfolio for a job in the film industry they may ask to see what previous you have created for the industry, this may include things such as scripts, storyboards, and pervious footage.
The legal side of repurposing content is rather simple, the main legal issue is copyright. The Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988, this means that creators of literary, dramatic, musical and artist work are free to use their content however they want. One way they can use their content is by having it allocated on their CV, this is where it fits into the legal side of creating a CV because if you were to use work that you don't own/created then it would fall under the Copyright, Design and Patents Act and you would be prosecuted or you wouldn't get the job.
Libel and Slander Defamation is an area of law which does legally stop people from writing and publishing or saying things that are untrue or inappropriate that could harm a group or an individual. Linking this back to an online portfolio, if I did write something untrue about someone then I could be prosecuted for libel and writing false information. This also stops places like universities and employers talking bad about my work to other people due to it being able to discourage on my behalf.
Ofcom regulate all content which is found on TV and radio broadcasts, they also regulate postal services, mobile phones, and fixed line telecoms.
Overall, when I am creating/ designing my media profile I will consider the attributes and elements I have included onto my media profile to ensure they are compliant with the relevant laws and regulations for example the Copyright Act. If I was to post these for commercially I would seek approval from the author and record these in an asset table.
